FAQ

Q. How do I get a fishing license?

Click here for the DFO Fishing License Website to buy a license online. Be sure to add the salmon conservation stamp to the transaction to ensure that you can fish salmon too. Children under the age of 16 need a license too, but theirs is free. Licenses may also be purchased at the marina here in Port Hardy.

Q. Do I need a reservation?

Reservations are definitely recommended to ensure you get your chosen dates locked in. Mid-summer is the busiest time for us, which could mean disappointment if you leave booking til the last minute. Accommodations tie into this as well, so give us a call and we'll help you with both.

Q. Is there a bathroom on board?

Yes, there is a toilet (head) on board and it's private. We use Marine toilet paper only.

Q. What about bad weather?

Being a larger weather-worthy boat, we rarely get stuck in the Harbour for the day. There are many protected fishing spots on the Port Hardy side to give a smoother ride should there be a system moving through. Starfish Charters always keeps safety the #1 priority. The 28ft Vessel handles the larger seas and is very stable in rougher conditions. Our mission is for everyone to have an enjoyable & safe fishing vacation.

Q. Who handles fish cleaning / packing / shipping?

Hardy Buoys fish processing takes care of all your needs, including air travel-approved cartons at a reasonable cost. If you're traveling locally, we suggest you bring your own coolers. Your personal coolers can be packed with salt ice for your drive home.

Q. Will there be food and drinks available?

We will supply some snack food as well as an assortment of non-alcoholic beverages.

Q. Will fishing gear be provided?

Yes. You may bring yours if you like. Please ensure you have 60-80 # Braid line for bottom fishing reels.

Q. Are your rates per person?

The answer is NO. Our rates are for the whole group/vessel.
